I recently ha a chance to review Pray for Me by Rick Hamlin. This was an interesting book to review - it wasn't exactly what I expected. However, it was still an interesting book to read.
I think I expected more of a self-help book, or advice of sorts. Instead, it read more as a memoir, with the author's medical crisis interspersed with other memories. I still am glad I read it, because the author wrote with honesty, both about the medical situation itself and about the impact it had on his faith.
What was kind of surprising to me was how early on in the odyssey the author believed he would improve. That played an important role in his spiritual journey - the transition from feeling completely despondent to hopeful. It also incorporated the prayers and support of friends and family throughout the story; it was obvious that the family had a network of believers praying for recovery.
It's a good book for anyone who likes reading stories of recovery, or just encouraging stories in general about overcoming the odds.
