Soul Sustenance: Seeking Aliveness - Daily Reflections on a New Way to Experience and Practice the Christian Faith

It's easy to get stuck in a rut. As Christians, even our expressions of faith can become automatic. While it's nice to be comfortable in our faith, it can also make it stale and less meaningful. Seeking Aliveness, a new book I got to review, aims to help Christians change that.

The devotional, written by Brian D McLaren, is based on another book he wrote, We Make the Road by Walking. I never read that book, but this devotional works as a stand-alone book as well. It's designed to take readers through a year of reflection, with a different focus each week divided into over-arching themes. These themes roughly follow Biblical chronology, and the readings are fairly short, so it would work to complement other reading plans as well.

Each devotional has Scripture to read, Brian's thoughts, and then a "today" section that can help readers focus on one small thing each day to bring a sense of life to a potentially routine topic.
