As the world continues to become digitized in all areas of life, an integral area facing the highest impact is not just in the bedroom but on dates. I recently received findings from a recent survey conducted by Puls, the on-demand tech repair service, in tandem with Winifred Reilly, a marriage therapist who has helped more than 1,000 couples build strong, loving relationships - no matter how frustrated they were or how long they've been stuck.
Some key findings from the study below:
- Face-to-face communication is the key to a successful relationship.
- 74% of couples said phone use during a conversation was their main tech pet peeve
- 37% even wish their partner would use their phone less altogether
- The phone has become a safety blanket
- 80% of people 24 and under sleep with their phone (same for 25% of people 55+)
- 61% of phone sleepers are single with 35% are married – coincidence??
- Men are 2x as likely to be annoyed by excessive selfie taking during a date but are 10x more likely to check the status of a game. Hypocrites.
- Sharing the phone passcode immediately?!
- 3% of unhappy singles and 8% of unhappy newlyweds yes
- 36% of happy singles and 25% of happy newlyweds said yes
- And just for kicks – 20% of happy singles admitted to using dating apps while on a date with another individual. Time to step up your game folks.
