Parenting Pointers: Drive to Decide (MN)

Morrie’s Automotive has developed a more fulfilling car shopping experience for Twin Cities car buyers throughDrive to Decide. The single-day immersive test drive event will take place on Saturday, April 21 and will provide shoppers the opportunity to fully compare nine mid-sized crossovers conveniently in one location.

During the event, car shoppers can put vehicles to the practicality test at a ‘utilization station’, testing cargo capacity with various items, installing car seats, loading bikes and more. Additionally, attendees can test drive vehicles back-to back, saving valuable time, and also ride along a more strenuous driving scenario skill course with a professional behind the wheel.

“For many, car shopping consists of spending valuable Saturdays traveling from dealership to dealership, gathering vehicle specs, getting behind the wheel and more,” said Karl Schmidt, CEO of Morrie’s Automotive Group. “With Drive to Decide, attendees can compare multiple vehicles using real life scenarios in one location.”

Models on-site during the event include:

·   Mazda CX-5
·   Ford Escape
·   Subaru Forester
·   Volkswagen Tiguan
·   Nissan Rogue
·   Hyundai Tucson
·   Toyota Rav-4
·   Chevrolet Equinox
·   Honda CR-V

“Shopping for a car should be celebrated, not dreaded,” said Schmidt. “We’ve created an environment that introduces convenience and enjoyment back into the process. Purchasing a car is a big decision and through Drive to Decide car shoppers are given the tools they need to make the right choice for their family.”

Drive to Decide will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 10 am to 4 pm at Dunwoody College of Technology. The event is solely for attendees to research and test vehicles. Vehicles cannot be purchased on-site.

To attend, individuals can RSVP at morries.com/drivetodecide.

Why did Morrie's decide to do this event?
We wanted to provide participants an opportunity to compare new vehicles in the compact crossover segment in a comfortable, convenient, and accessible environment. Cross-shopping is pretty difficult to do – especially if you’ve got the whole family in tow! Being able to go for a test drive in one vehicle and then hopping into another, competing model is a rare thing in the automotive world, but we feel that it brings a lot of value to the table. Not only will people save a lot of time driving from dealership to dealership, each vehicle will be more fresh in their minds when it comes to making comparisons and ultimately, a more informed decision.

How is this event tailored to families?
First and foremost, we’ll have what we’re referring to as the Family Engagement Station – a tent set up with coloring books and a slot car track. We understand that dealerships aren’t necessarily the most child-friendly environments, and bringing out the whole family for a day of car shopping can be a harrowing experience – so we wanted to give parents a place to let the kids blow off some steam and do something they enjoy! We’ll also have food trucks on hand throughout the day to mitigate the hassle of feeding the whole family, plus the entire event is structured in a way that puts participants in complete control – come when you want to, and stay as long as you like. We’re just here to facilitate the process and answer questions!

What are some things parents overlook when buying cars?
Testing cargo capacity is definitely a big one – it’s fairly easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of a dealership experience and forget to make sure that all your camping gear will fit for a weekend out of town. In any case, you shouldn’t need to pack up your whole life for a test drive – which is why we’ve created what we’re calling the Utilization Station. We’ll provide commonly-transported, everyday items for participants to load up prospective vehicles with in order to get a feel for how much cargo space they have.

Another big one is phone connectivity and infotainment systems as a whole. Unfortunately, not all interfaces are created equal – some play nice with Android devices, while others work better with iOS. It’s pretty common for people to attempt to pair their phones for the first time once they’ve driven off the lot, only to find that things aren’t going as smoothly as they’d like. We’ll have product specialists on hand to assist with technology, phone pairings, and making sure that participants have all their bases covered when it comes to integrating their existing technology with prospective vehicles.

What are important questions to ask any dealer while purchasing cars?
We can’t speak for other dealership groups, but when you’re shopping at a Morrie’s location, our ultimate goal is to put you in a vehicle that’s best going to meet your needs – so do your best to communicate them to us! Our staff is trained to ask you the important questions that will help us find the best fit for you and your lifestyle, but every little bit of information helps! There are also no wrong questions when it comes to making what is generally the second biggest purchase of your life – so don’t be afraid to ask for clarification if you don’t understand something. We’re here to help!
