Website Spotlight: Storyline Online

Award-winning actor Tony Hale (VEEPArrested Development) is the newest reader for the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s children’s literacy program Storyline Online® (storylineonline.net), recently nominated for its first Daytime Emmy® in Outstanding Special Class – Short Format Daytime Program.

Hale joins an expanding cast of Storyline Online® readers that includes Viola Davis, Allison, Kristen Bell and Chris Pine by reading the bedtime tale No More Noisy Nights(
storylineonline.net/books/no-more-noisy-nights/). Written by Holly L. Niner, illustrated by Guy Wolek and published by Flashlight Press, No More Noisy Nights is about a house full of noisy nocturnal creatures and a sleep-deprived mole named Jackson who needs to get some rest! Hale’s storytelling offers quirky character voices alongside creatively produced original illustrations, bringing the story of a sole mole and his new and unlikely housemates to life.

Hale concludes his five minute read aloud by speaking directly to his young viewers about why he chose the book, “Guys, I was kind of that kid that was afraid of the dark, and what I so appreciate about Jackson is that he faced his fears with courage and he had a solution.” Hale concludes by urging kids to keep watching Storyline Online® and keep reading.

“Tony Hale has participated in several free educational programs at the Foundation over the course of his career. He really believes in giving back to his community, which is why we were not surprised when he volunteered to read for our children’s literacy initiative as well,” said Cyd Wilson, Executive Director of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. “And because Tony is such a warm and talented storyteller, No More Noisy Nights is another wonderful addition to the Storyline Online library that will be viewed by millions of children in homes and classrooms all over the world.”

A signature program of the nonprofit
SAG-AFTRA Foundation, Storyline Online streams 46 videos at no cost to children, parents, and educators worldwide, and receives over 6 million views every month.

As with all Storyline Online videos, No More Noisy Nights comes with a complimentarysupplemental activity guide aligned with Common Core Standards that strengthens verbal, written and comprehension skills. Aimed at students in kindergarten and 1st grades, these activities encourage students to engage in critical thinking and ponder the themes from the book including problem-solving, making friends and learning compromise.

In addition to the website, Storyline Online offers a free app for iPhone, Android and Chrome devices. The app features the full digital library of Storyline Online videos, complimentary educational activity guides and more.
