One unique way to journal is a multi-year journal - this allows you to write several entries for the same date, each a year apart. It can be a very interesting way to look at how your perspective changes over time. One such journal is The Daily Question, and I recently had the chance to review a similar one geared for parent and child: The Daily Question for You and Your Child.
This guided journal contains a question for each day of the year, with space to write the answer three times. The questions are sometimes deep, sometimes fun, which keeps the experience positive for parent and child. It only takes a few minutes to answer the question, so it's not a burden to add to a schedule - it's easy to do as a reflection at bedtime.
The hard cover means the book is durable - not just for the three years of writing, but also for keeping to reflect later. It benefits both parent and child - giving the parent insight into their children's development and personality, and giving the child focused attention from their parent. Some questions will invite further discussion, and other questions may have a shorter response, but by using this journal, parents and kids can go on a journey of discovery together.
