ZagZagZurich Artist Wool Blankets Collection

The new ZigZagZurich Artist Wool Blankets Collection adds an exciting new roster of artists from around the globe. From the dynamic work of Mexican artist Daniel Barreto to the Swiss works of Michele Rondelli and Sophie Probst. The new collection is inspired by art and graphics - from Pop Art to Bauhaus, spray paint effects, clear & bold stripes and geometric overlapping.

A new development: "twisted yarns"
The news of this collection is the use of the "twisted yarns" which gives a unique melange colour effect to the blankets. To weave the blankets we used two yarns with the same thickness but in different colours. The beauty that comes out of this artistic choice is a kaleidoscopic game of colours and the creation, at the same time, of a pattern which cannot be controlled.

Bauhaus 100
In occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, Michele Rondelli & Sophie Probst continued the series of "Bauhaused" blankets adding 3 new designs to the previous collection. Geometric patterns declined in bright colours, celebrate one of the most important movement of architecture, art and design of the whole 20th century.
I had a chance to do an interview to learn more.

How did Zagzagzurich get started?

ZigZagZurich started in 2013 in Switzerland. Our fundamental interest in off-stream and our passion for design led us looking at the ready made home textiles and accessories market and thinking what is missing from it today. We offer consumers a new way to enjoy art and design supporting artists and discovering new talents.

What is "twisted yarns?”

To weave the blankets we used two yarns with the same thickness but in different colours. This give a unique melange effect to the blankets. The beauty that comes out of this artistic choice is a kaleidoscopic game of colours and the creation, at the same time, of a pattern which cannot be controlled.

How can blankets show Bauhuas style?

Our wool blankets collections have always an inspiration and a theme. For the 2018 wool blankets collection, we decided to tribute some blankets to one of the most important movement of architecture, art and design of the whole 20th century: the Bauhaus. In occasion the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the design department worked on geometric patterns declined in bright colours to evoke the Bauhaus style.

About the artists

Daniel Barreto is a Mexican experimental artist, based in Guadalajara, who has established a unique identifiable style with his use of abstract shapes and vibrant colours. Daniel Barreto's work has been exhibited at Time Square, Saatchi Gallery, Beijing's Yuan Art Museum and more.

Michele Rondelli is a Swiss born interior architect educated in Switzerland and in Paris. Since 2015 he was appointed as the Creative Director for ZigZagZurich and 4Spaces, two innovative and leading textile brands headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.

Sophie Probst, a recent graduate from the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Art, has a long-standing fascination with traditional weaving and drawing, mixed with modern pattern design and coloration work. Her designs are a celebration of colour and freedom, with intricate detail that covers board spectrums of interests.
