Area Attractions: Snow White at the CTC (Minneapolis)

My family recently had the chance to attend a showing of Snow White courtesy of the MN Children's Theatre. We haven't seen too many shows on the smaller Cargill stage, but it's definitely a different experience.

This is a whimsical, fun production put on by two actors with music. Joy Dolo, who we had seen as the wise and imposing Gandalf in The Hobbit, easily switched between furious, innocent, inquisitive, encouraging, and more. Dean Holt, who we've seen in many productions, does an excellent job at portraying the reluctant dwarf who gets caught up in the storytelling. The whole family enjoyed it - it was funny, intense, and in a much more intimate setting (the front rows are just feet from the stage).

CTC Artistic Director Peter Brosius says, “What I love about Greg’s version of this story is that he highlights the very redefinition of family—our Snow White has agency and chooses her new family and freedom over the classic definition of ‘happily ever after.’ It also looks at privilege and choice, narcissism and greed, and ultimately, how kindness, intelligence, and empathy win the day.”

If you have a chance to see this wonderful production, I strongly recommend it!
