I recently had the chance to review Malamander, the initial title for a new series called The Legends of Eerie-on-Sea. My kids both enjoyed this book. It has adventure and suspense, with a little bit of quirky, unexpected elements to the book.
In the book, Herbert Lemon is the Lost and Founder for a hotel, and a girl his age, Violet Parma, comes in, who lost her parents at the hotel as a baby. Not only does Herbert need to figure out how to help her, she's also being followed by a hook-handed man - add to that the town legend, the Malamander, a fish-human monster that has a magical egg.
It's a fantastical mystery that will be entertaining for middle grade readers.
