Amazing Apps: Mindful Mamas

The Mindful Mamas app (launching next month) was created by Terra LaRock, a licensed psychologist, and the idea for it was birthed after her own difficult experiences with postpartum. Some app features include
  • Guided meditations
  • Mantras
  • Breathing techniques
  • 1-3 minute exercises called Mini-Pauses
  • Women can record their own mantras and meditations to enrich their practice

The Mindful Mamas app is designed to fit self-care into the lives of busy moms, transforming their smartphones from mindless distractors to mindful peace providers, anytime and anywhere.

I had a chance to interview Terra to learn more.

  1. Why did you create this app?
When I became a mother, I went through the single most challenging personal, mental, and physical transformation of my life. I created the Mindful Mamas App to help other mothers survive and thrive throughout all the transformations, thoughts, and emotions that motherhood brings. Mindfulness is a tool that I had to teach myself, but with this app, Moms have everything they need in one place to learn to practice mindfulness, connect with each other, and grow as mothers and as women.  The Mindful Mamas App is the tool that I desperately wanted on my motherhood journey.

        2. Why is mindfulness important?

If there is only one thing we can give to mothers to help them get through one of the hardest transitions in life, it is mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a way of thinking that has been shown to have benefits in all areas of life.
Mindfulness:
improves focus
reduces stress
eases fears and anxieties
improves sleep and relaxation
generates happiness
reduces pain
and increases general wellbeing
Plus so much more.

There is no baby product on the planet that can do all that, yet a few adjustments to the way a mama thinks, and her whole life can be drastically improved.

        3. What makes this app particularly suited for mothers?

Mindfulness is a unique journey for every person. Our meditations, mantras, mini pauses, and breathing techniques are tailored for the needs of mothers. There are specific mindfulness programs for mamas who are losing sleep, heading back to work, trying to reconnect with a partner, etc. Mamas are at the heart of everything we release. Our team is composed of experts in the field, and we know what it is like to be mamas ourselves.
