Book Nook: Books from National Geographic (Explorer Academy - The Star Dunes and Extreme Ocean)

My kids have always enjoyed National Geographic Kids Books. I like them too - they're educational and engaging. They're written in ways kids can understand, but still contain a wealth of information that even adults can learn.

I recently had a chance to review two books with a little bit of a conservation theme, one fiction, and one non-fiction.

Explorer Academy: The Star Dunes by Trudi Trueit is the fourth book in the popular fact-based fiction series. Deemed “captivating” by the editors at Parenting.com and “exciting, fast-paced” by Booklist, the series is filled with thrilling adventures, high-tech cadets, cool science, far-away lands, and codes to crack.
At the Explorer Academy, 12-year-old Cruz Coronado, along with 23 kids from around the world, are training to be the next great explorers. Cruz is also working to solve the mystery of his mother's death. As they head off to Africa, they need to give life-saving medication to gorillas, stop pangolin poachers, and find the last known cheetahs in Namibia. It's a fun adventure, plus, kids can learn a lot about animals, caring for nature, and working together.
With four critically acclaimed titles in this series now available, two companion nonfiction activity books and literally hours and hours of videos, games, and info on real-life explorers at ExplorerAcademy.com , Explorer Academy is a great way to keep kids learning, reading and engaged

Extreme Ocean: Amazing Animals, High-Tech Gear, Record-Breaking Depths and Much More by National Geographic Explorer Sylvia A. Earle is written for middle-grade readers. It shares amazing aspects of the ocean - the deepest depths, giant tsunamis, huge creatures and microscopic swimmers. It covers not only the living things in the ocean, but also the gear and gadgets used to explore, and includes a log of hands-on activities to provide fun outside of the book too.

National Geographic has a ton of books for kids on countless topics, historical and scientific. I've always been pleased with the books my kids have found, whether it was at the library, the book fair, or the book store, and never have a problem saying yes to them getting these fun and educational books!
