I had a chance to interview Patrick Sherwin, CEO and Founder of GoSun, a small company with powerful gear for outdoor travel.
If people are interested in off-the-grid vacations, where are places they can go?People interested in off-the-grid vacations can go to the National Forest or U.S. Bureau of Land Management website to find suitable camping spots depending on their individual preferences, geographical location, and needs. Camping on public lands away from developed recreation facilities is referred to as dispersed camping. Most of the public lands are open to dispersed camping, as long as the areas are not marked as "closed to camping" or in some way adversely affects wildlife species or natural resources. Dispersed camping is allowed on public land for a period of 14 days maximum.
In terms of specific places to go, if you’re looking to find solitude in the backcountry during an off-the-grid getaway, look no further than the Oregon Badlands Wilderness Area. The Oregon Badlands were formed thousands of years ago from volcanic activity, making for a wilderness teeming with remarkable geological features. Because this is a wilderness area, camping in the Oregon Badlands is primitive, so make sure you do so safely and come prepared with the proper supplies, including navigation equipment.
For the rugged and adventurous, this refuge offers a true wilderness camping experience like no other. All Arctic National Wildlife Refuge lands are open to the public at all times, giving ample opportunity for visitors to see moose, caribou, polar bears, and many other creatures. There are no campgrounds, roads, established trails, or facilities at the refuge, so campers must be completely self-reliant and leave no trace.
Why are solar products like GoSun's so appropriate for campers? The thing about nature is that there are very few 7-Elevens, electrical outlets, running clean water, or modern amenities. GoSun’s solar products are perfect for campers because they’re portable, convenient, and function off-grid. No fuel, electricity, or expensive generator required. You can cook, cool, light, or power with GoSun’s solar-powered innovations.
Who else are solar products good for?Solar products are good for anyone wanting to make a transition from dependency and fossil fuels, to independence and renewables. Solar products help reduce your carbon footprint, save you money on fuel and electricity, and provide a sustainable source of power that is climate change friendly. Solar products work even when it’s cold, cloudy, or rainy outside, and with the help of backup battery power, they even work at night. We’re proud to announce that GoSun is quickly becoming the household name for portable, practical solar products for recreation, emergency, and off-grid applications.
GoSun provides the following products
A BETTER WAY TO PRESERVE FOOD. The thing about nature is that there are very few 7-Elevens to purchase ice for your cooler. The GoSun Chill is a portable, solar-powered cooler with a backup battery that will keep your food cold or frozen for days and you never need to buy ice!
A BETTER WAY TO COOK FOOD. Sure, wood exists, but many parks will have burn bans in effect by summer prohibiting open fires, and it’s always a chore to haul all that wood or even that propane. GoSun’s solar cookers are portable, solar-powered camping stoves that can bake, roast, or steam a meal for up to six people in just an hour. As an added bonus: the solar oven’s vacuum tube allows food to stay moist, tender, flavorful and untainted by smoke or fumes. (It actually makes fish taste better!)
A BETTER WAY TO POWER LIGHTS (AND OTHER ELECTRONICS). Batteries tend to run out when you need them most, especially on your phone and most essential gadgets. GoSun's line of solar-powered lighting, chargers, power banks and more will power everything you need to stay safe and comfortable while camping. To help people stay safe during these uncertain times, GoSun is also found a small amount of regular face masks (not N95) through its supply chain connections and will send a free face mask with every item purchased for people to wear while outside to keep themselves and others safe.
