Fun Freetime: Guardian Adventures Online

Guardian Adventures’  (GA) Online School Break Adventures pack the fun of its live camps into just five days of adventure where young heroes can make new friends and save the world. Wizards, warriors, and zombies…. The quest awaits! School Vacation week enters the mythical world of Sidleterra, with intrigue is around every corner.  From STEM-based experiments to virtual sword or NERF battles, the homebound hero’s journey is both exciting and educational.
GA specializes in informal educational programs and camps by families, for families.  Since its inception ins 1999, Guardian Adventures came to realize that everyone, even the most avid swordmanship competitor also want to have fun. So, GA has applied story ingredients thoroughly in all programs and offerings. Instructors as highly trained in special coaching methods, and its team of plot writers make sure interactive adventures capture focus and inspire imagination.

"We knew that there was a possibility of Spring Break  being a time when parents needed something to keep their kids occupied while the parents worked from home.  That's a tough place to be,” says Owner Meghan Gardner. “So, we started planning on moving our live STEM adventures online a month ago. And now that we have been testing them and refining them for a month -- because we literally went online the day after our facility closed-- we have everything set to go for the kids.  Thus far, parents are very happy about our work and have been sending us a great deal of praise for "saving their sanity" by engaging their children and teens through educational stories”

The What, How, and Why of Guardian Adventures
The What
Inspire learners by providing the following:
·       Dynamic, interactive adventures filled with constant scenarios that require teamwork, investigation, and introspection about their values.
·       Characters and creatures from real world mythology, literature and history which inspire the students to learn more about the world in order to succeed at their quest.
·       Challenges with results that change depending on the student’s choices and open discussion about how the difference they make in the story can mirror the difference they make in the real world.

The How

We accomplish this by:
·       Presenting students with challenges which require them to investigate and ask questions while looking outside of the immediate environment for solutions and allies who can help them learn.
·       Incorporating the concept of “Transfer” into games, lessons, and stories, which helps students consider what they are learning and how to apply it to their life outside of the adventure.
The Why
·       Our mission is to help our students:
·       Embrace Learning as a lifelong endeavor. We want to motivate our students to pursue what they are passionate about by finding mentors and resources to help them grow.
·       Be Heroic. We want to inspire our students to find those situations in their life where they can make a difference and act with courage, honor, and compassion.

GA is also completely set up to offer online virtual summer camp seamlessly, which many camps are not in the position to do.
"This is such an overwhelming sense of uncertainty right now around what's going to happen this summer.  Parents are scrambling to try and find coverage for their kids,” states Gardner. “So our company is moving forward with our adventure camps, no matter what. It will either be online, or if the local health department allows it, we will be live.  It might be online one week and then live the next week.  We are literally preparing to pivot that fast. "
