Book Nook - Feeling Forwards: How to Become the Person Who Has the Life You Want

Everything you need to transform your life is already within you, asserts bestselling author and personal reinvention coach Elizabeth Gould. Her empowering new book,

Feeling Forwards
: How to Become the Person Who Has the Life You Want, can help you say farewell to negative habits, release painful beliefs and tap into your full potential by harnessing the infinite energy generated by your emotions.

The first half of Feeling Forwards is a dive into the science proving the true power of our emotions, enabling them to travel forward and backward in time, influence pre-programmed computer outcomes, reverse aging, impact crime rates, fast-track personal reinvention and much more. After understanding the effects that our emotions can truly have on our lives, Elizabeth offers practical applications of the strategies in Feeling Forwards using real-life examples of those who’ve successfully integrated the principles into their lives.

Woven throughout are Elizabeth’s candid, personal stories of embracing these principles to thrive through several life-threatening events and dramatic personal upheavals.

The result is a relatable, actionable guide to help you create the life you genuinely want to live. Feeling Forwards teaches you how to become the person who has the life you want … today. As Elizabeth reveals, “Today is the past of your future.”

You can learn more in this interview.

What is the link between emotions and energy?

Emotion and energy are completely interconnected.  How you’re feeling emotionally can create incredible stamina or leave you completely drained.  Just after a break up, your sadness could mean you couldn’t find the energy to exercise, even though you always exercised regularly before.  But let me share a less dramatic example!  Let’s say you must get up incredibly early to take a work call or complete a deadline.  The alarm goes off at 4 am and you get up and complete the task. But maybe not in a bouncy mood?  The next day, the alarm goes off for 4 am but this time it’s because you need to get to the airport for your First-Class flight to your luxury holiday destination. I’m guessing you would be a lot more excited to get out of bed in the second scenario. The activity of getting up at 4am is the same but the different emotion will transform your energy levels!  So, is it possible to spring out of bed with excitement whenever you choose? Absolutely.

In my book, ‘Feeling Forwards’ I share the science behind harnessing the power of emotions together with real life stories and lots of tools to use in your daily life to create the future you want to enjoy.

Why did you choose to write this book?

My fascination with the power of emotions intensified when I was writing my second book ‘Happy Children – Secrets of how they think’. I learned from the children I interviewed for the book that they decided when they would be happy, even during tough times like when they were being bullied or were scared.  I had already written so much about overcoming incredible challenges but when I wrote ‘Feeling Forwards’, I wanted to write a book giving anyone access to create their future. I found it so revealing when I read Abraham Lincoln’s quote, ‘The best way to predict your future is to create it.’

In ‘Feeling Forwards’ my aim was to create a guide to help anyone create the life they want to live instead of being stuck, uncertain and unable to reach their full potential.

How can our emotions help us get the life we want?

Thinking alone doesn’t help you create the life you want. If it did, every New Year’s Resolution would stick, and every bad habit would be discarded easily!  In ‘Feeling Forwards’ I share a story about twins who had very different lives – one was homeless and lived on the street while the other enjoyed material and personal success.  A journalist interviewed them to understand why their lives had become so different when their childhood had been the same.

The successful twin explained, “I had no choice, you see. I had to find a way up and out because my father was a horrible alcoholic and abused me and my brother – I knew if I didn’t work hard and seek a better life, I’d become just like him.” The homeless twin answered, “I had no choice, you see. I was doomed because my father was a horrible alcoholic who abused me and my brother. I didn’t stand a chance.”

One twin chose to feel despair and resignation about his future, the other hopeful determination. Once each twin chose his emotional focus, the rest of their lives unfolded in alignment with the future they felt they would have. In ‘Feeling Forwards’ I share how and when you can choose your emotions, your focus and create the best daily habits to help you get the life you want.
