Book Nook: Pickles the Dog, Goes to School

I recently had the chance to review Pickles the Dog, Goes to School, by Kat Socks. The book follows Kat and her family's adopted dog, Pickles, who goes to school one day. Throughout the book, there's a cute story and illustrations with a bit of a retro style to them, giving the book a heartwarming feel. Throughout the plot there are gentle reminders of ways to treat dogs and be observant to their needs, which can be helpful reminders for kids with or without pets about being sensitive to how dogs may react.

The book is the third in a series. The first, Pickles the Dog, Adopted has won several national awards, including being a 2019 Distinguished Favorite in the Independent Press Awards and a finalist in the Indie Book Awards, as well as winning two awards for cover design. That book follows Kat as she trains Pickles to be safe around the farm. Also available is Pickles the Dog, A Christmas Tradition. In the story, the young girl, Kat, shares her special Christmas traditions with Pickles. Be on the lookout for a hidden pickle on each page.
