Consumer Critique: Geomag

Smart-playing has always been at the heart of the Swiss-based brand Geomag promotes learning by playing activity through ingenious magnetic toys.  I had a chance to see a set Magicube blocks.

It's a system made up of magnetic cubes. They attach easily on all sides, and they have cubes, quarter circle, half sphere, and half cube shapes. They're all on the same scale, so they mix and match easily. I love that they're all made from recycled plastics - really important to see a company trying to close that loop.

The sets allow for freeform open-ended play. Working with the cubes can actually build early pre-math skills. As kids get older, they can build more complex shapes, combining with more sets. There's a starter set, an animal-themed set, a set that has wheels and magnetic wheel bases, and a full 32-piece set for even more building options.

Got older kids? The company also makes more intricate sets for older kids, all the way up to sets that look like they'd be fun to me as an adult!
