Consumer Critique: Hoppy & Poppie PinkCheeks

Calm In Your Palm® recently launched its Hoppy & Poppie PinkCheeks line of products and educational materials designed to help parents equip their children with skills that can help them thrive socially, academically, and emotionally.  Parents can effectively teach emotional intelligence (EI/EQ) skills as early as the newborn stage with these new products that provide the ideal platform to instill those skills.

The products aim to help parents teach newborns, toddlers and preschoolers about their emotions through adorable character-based products and Hoppy & Poppie PinkCheeks EQ Guides. The engaging world of Hoppy & Poppie PinkCheeks characters and products can set any child on a solid learning path toward high emotional intelligence. These products will help parents feel good knowing that they have invested in exactly what they and their children need to thrive.

I had a chance to see samples of some of their products, and I can definitely see how they'd be helpful, especially for young kids. The board book is a big chunky size, easy for little hands to hold, with engaging illustrations that are bold but not too bright and some textured parts on pages for kids to feel. The story is a great way to introduce toddlers to the language of feelings and how feelings can change. There's a companion blanket square that is the same color scheme as in the book, and is a nice soft feel. There are bracelets with emotion names on it are good for slightly older kids who can read, and also a way to teach kids that sometimes we feel more than one emotion at a time. One of the other products available is an adorable plush with antenna that kids can mold to go along with emotions.

I think these can be great tools to help kids learn about feelings and express themselves through play. One thing I've found as a teacher is that it can be very helpful to ask indirect questions to find out what kids are thinking - for example, instead of asking directly how they're feeling about school, you can say something like, "Chris is sad about school. What might have happened to make Chris sad?" These tools make the perfect tangible items to use in this style of exploration. You can also download a free EQ guide from the website to learn more.

I have a chance to share the code Friend10 which will get you 10% off on your purchases through May 31st.
