“Raiders of the Lost Art is a YouTube series that is like a cross between VH1’s Behind the Music and Mythbusters, it’s partly experiments in sound and composing, coupled with disassembling music tracks, and of course highlighting new groundbreaking innovations in the professional and consumer audio world. From gear reviews to practical tips in creating content that has a deeper connection with the listener. This is that type of series. Something different in the avalanche of content that already exists,” shares Finbar.
His YouTube series, ‘Raiders of the Lost Art,’ embellishes the perfect balance of simplicity and complexity. Throughout the series, Finbar teaches his audience that there is in fact simplicity amidst things that seem too difficult to tackle. If we break a concept down to its most rudimentary form, we may begin to understand it better than ever before. Over time as genres have been assigned, blurred, and blended, many listeners have grown numb to the distinction of various styles and nuances of and in music. Learning any instrument is hard. It takes dedication, practice, and skill. One of the challenges that most guitarists face when picking up a guitar is the constant battle with memorizing the seemingly endless patterns of chords, scales, arpeggios and the theory that underlies these things, theory that can get so overwhelming and so complex, that it forces many to give up, or just not venture into this domain of understanding.
“Over my journey as a musician, and as a teacher, with over 1000 students under my belt, I have seen first-hand the challenges that this complexity places on musicians, musicians who are trying to find a voice and master the instrument. On the other hand, I have witnessed many experts make simple things very, very complex, and at the same time see some of these experts chastise or criticize anyone looking to challenge or explore beyond the rules they have learned, as if their expertise and identity is intrinsically attached to their existing knowledge,” Finbar explains.
Finbar encourages the world to search out the tools that help them break new ground and find a new voice.
