I recently had the chance to review Get Real and Get In - How to Get Into the College of Your Dreams by Being Your Authentic Self. For parents of teens who will be interesting college in the next few years, it's a great guide for how to get into college without trying to do things that aren't genuine and authentic.
Dr. Aviva Legatt is a professor, counselor, and admissions officer in the Ivy League, so this book comes with experience and credibility behind it. Dr. Legatt makes the case for doing activities that are truly you, not just for things that look good on a resume or application.
The book is easy to read and understandable. There is a lot of very practical advice, as well as anecdotes from a variety of influential figures. It felt more personable than some of the other "getting into college" guides that I've read, and it definitely contains advice I'll need in the next few years for my daughter who will be entering high school in the fall. It's also a book I'm recommending to my students who need some extra advice as they prepare for filling out college applications this year.
