Consumer Critique: Labyrinth City

Publisher Pixmain and independent animation and development studio Darjeeling recently released their puzzle game Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective. The game is based on the global hit comic book series ‘Pierre the Maze Detective’ by Japanese artist Hirofumi Kamigaki and illustration studio IC4DESIGN. Players will take the role of dashing young detective Pierre, explore the intricate hand-drawn worlds, and track down the elusive villain Mr X to save the day.

I had a chance to review this game, which has Pierre following Mr X, who stole the magical Maze Stone from Opera City's museum. I was very impressed with the animation style. The scenes were detailed and unique, and had well-crafted characters. There are mazes, minigames, and hidden objects to find in order to progress along the story. The game has won awards including IndieCade 2020 Visual Design and Game Connection Asia 2020 Best Quality of Art.

I thought it was a fun game if you like puzzles. My daughter wished there was a little more freedom to explore the world because it was so intriguing, but she enjoyed it as well. I liked that it was both challenging and fun for both my girls and me - not too easy and boring, but not too hard and frustrating.
