If you're a Harry Potter fan, you might be interested in this book. I recently got a chance to review
The Unofficial Hogwarts Cookbook for Kids: 50 Magically Simple, Spellbinding Recipes for Young Witches and Wizards. The book contains dozens of recipes inspired directly by things mentioned in the books (like butterbeer) as well as foods often eaten by British schoolchildren. The layout of the book is very kid-friendly. Every recipe has a large, full-color picture to make it even more appetizing. The directions are clearly explained, and most of the recipes are suitable for kids with little experience in the kitchen. It's a great book for kids to try to cook through to learn how to follow recipes on their own or with minimal supervision. The book includes options for breakfast, dinners, snacks, and dessert! Even picky eaters will like most of the recipes, although a few might not be universally loved (for example, my kids don't love porridge, but loved trying out just about everything else).
You can learn more in this interview with the author.
-Why did you write this cookbook?
I wanted to bring to life the foods from Harry Potter through approachable recipes for kids. I loved cooking as a little kid and wanted to create recipes that would teach basic cooking skills through the magical treats of Harry Potter.
-What was your favorite part of recreating Hogwarts recipes?
My favorite part was when after several rounds of recipe testing or making tweaks, a recipe would finally be exactly where I wanted it.
-Where did you come up with some of the ideas for recipes that aren't mentioned in the books?
I thought a lot about where Harry Potter takes place, in England, and decided to include many classic British dishes the characters were likely to be eating like sticky toffee pudding or bubble and squeak even if not explicitly mentioned.
