Caring Causes: UNICEF Gifts

This season, UNICEF USA has hand-selected gifts that give back 3x over – to the local artisans that create these gifts, to vulnerable children in need and serving as thoughtful presents for loved ones.

·        UNICEF Market is an online collection of handcrafted items made by artisans from around the world. This year’s roundup of gifts includes handcrafted artisan handbags, jewelry, houseware, men and women’s clothing, winter accessories and more. The full UNICEF Market Gift Guide can be accessed here.

·        UNICEF Inspired Gifts are lifesaving items and supplies that we deliver to children and communities around the world and can be purchased in honor of a loved one. The UNICEF Inspired Gift Collection offers everything from school supplies to soap, therapeutic food, emergency supplies, PPE, warm clothing, soccer balls, vaccines and more!

·        UNICEF Partners – corporate gifts from partners include Louis Vuitton’s Silver Lockits and Doudou Louis Bear. $100 of every Silver Lockit bracelet sold and $200 of every Doudou Louis bear sold goes to support UNICEF.

I had a chance to interview Shannon Coffey Manager, Digital Marketing and Digital Revenue at UNICEF USA to learn more.

UNICEF USA has a few gifting options for the holiday season, including UNICEF Market, UNICEF Inspired Gifts and items from corporate partners like Louis Vuitton and MAC. Can you tell me a bit more about these items and why is it helpful for them to have all three?

UNICEF Market is an online collection of jewelry, apparel, home décor and unique gifts handcrafted by talented artisans from around the world that fund critical care for children.

Purchasing from these artisans and family-run workshops will allow UNICEF to scale up response to COVID-19 and other emergencies, as well as continue to implement health, nutrition, sanitation, protection, education, and more programs for children in over 190 countries.

Inspired Gifts are essential supplies gifted in honor of a loved one. UNICEF delivers the supplies to children and families who need them most, and sends a card to your loved one, letting them know about the difference your gift has made.

UNICEF USA corporate partners also offer items that give back to UNICEF. Every cent of the selling price of M·A·C VIVA GLAM Lipsticks is donated to the M·A·C VIVA GLAM Fund which has raised over $500 million for organizations around the world, like UNICEF, supporting healthy futures and equal rights for all. Since 2003, M·A·C has contributed nearly $15 million to UNICEF’s HIV/AIDS relief efforts. To learn more, visit www.maccosmetics.com/vivaglam

A continuation of the Maison’s #MAKEAPROMISE campaign, $100 of every Louis Vuitton 2021 Silver Lockit bracelet sold goes to support UNICEF. #MakeAPromise has raised millions of dollars in funds for UNICEF to support the most vulnerable children in the world, through the exquisite Lockit bracelets referencing George Vuitton’s ingenious tumbler lock created in 1890 to protect precious belongings.

Doudou Louis, the Louis Vuitton for UNICEF teddy bear, appears for the first time this year in textile format. $200 of every Doudou Louis bear sold goes to support UNICEF.

How does UNICEF choose where the gifts come from, whether it's artisans or corporate partners?

UNICEF Market works with artisans in regions around the world who handcraft the unique gifts sure to delight your friends and family members. Through our partners in regional offices, each piece is inspected for quality and packaged to be safely delivered to your final destination.

What are some advantages of charitable gift-giving?

By doing your shopping at UNICEF Market, you’re giving unique, meaningful gifts to those you love, and making a difference for children and families everywhere. As well as funding UNICEF’s programs for children, every unique UNICEF Market product is sourced directly from talented artisans in Asia, Latin America and Africa to make sure they receive a fair price for their work so their families are cared for, too.

How can families use Inspired Gifts to help children recognize the importance of giving to others?

Inspired Gifts are a tangible way to help children see what giving can do for another child. When families shop the Inspired Gift collection, they can talk with their children about supplies that are essential for all kids to grow up healthy and happy. What kinds of things do they think all children should have? Sending items like pencils and school notebooks, clothes to keep warm in the cold or soccer balls will help children understand the importance of sharing these Inspired Gifts with children around the world.
