Healthy Habits: Safe Oral Sex

We would like to offer you a personal preview of the introduction of Harmony Dams. Why do people often overlook protection for oral sex even if they use it for penetrative sex?

Many people believe that oral sex has little associated risks.  The misconception is that if there is no penetration there is no need to worry about protection; however, oral sex still carries the risk of transmission of many different STIs including, but not limited to, chlamydia, herpes, and gonorrhea.  Many people continue to only consider using protection as a means of not getting pregnant, therefore not realizing the need for protection when engaging in oral sex.  Condom usage far exceeds oral barriers when considering protection partly due to this view.  There are also many different demographics that have never heard of a Dental Dam or Oral Barrier, so they are just unaware that there is an option for protection.

Sexual Education has been lacking in educating people about the risks associated with oral sex, leaving many uninformed or with the false impression it is not something to be concerned about.


Why is it so important to consider protection for oral sex as well?

Because the truth is that STIs are transmissible through oral sex.  The use of a barrier in oral sex is very important as a means to help maintain your sexual health, especially since one of the most common symptoms of many STIs is having no symptoms at all!

The World Health Organization states that over 1 million new curable STIs are transmitted daily around the world. This is the number we hope to see Harmony Dams help reduce.

What sets this product apart from other options for protection?

Harmony Dams are the only product on the market to offer a latex alternative with our Polyisoprene Dam. It is the first ever polyisoprene dam that is fully licensed for distribution as an oral barrier. Additionally, both our latex and polyisoprene Dams are free of artificial flavorings.

The Harmony Polyisoprene Dam is great news for those with Latex allergies or sensitivities.  Harmony Dams are also available in a Latex option.
