Fun Freetime: DIY Decorations

With the holidays upon us, it’s time to transform your home into a winter wonderland! TheSoul Publishing has a ton of DIY decorations in this video from their popular YouTube channel 5-Minute Crafts. These decorations are simple, creative, and great for a night of family bonding. I shared some of my favorite ideas below. Happy to share more if you’re interested!

  • Create a Christmas tree as your napkin placement! Using a green cloth napkin, fold horizontally and then vertically to create a square. Layer the flaps and fold the napkin back creating a layered diamond shape. Next fold in the corners, place it on the plate and add some finishing touches for the start and the trunk!  (00:09)
  • Get the young ones involved by creating pasta ornaments! Using penne pasta and a glue gun, have your kids create their star as you glue the ends for them. Then, have them paint it. Once dried, tie a ribbon on the top and have them showcase their work on the tree! (1:03)
  • Show off your crafty skills by creating a Santa door display! Using a piece of a pool noodle, insert both ends into a Santa hat. Then with a needle and thread grab two separate piece of tule and sinch them individually. With a hot glue gun, glue one piece of the sinched tule on top of each other over the pool noodle. Glue a small red pom in the center and hang on the door!  (2:48)
