I normally like quote books, so I was happy to be able to review Emotional Shorthand: 2,500 Greatest Self-Help Quotes and Life Insights.
This book wasn't just an ordinary quote book, though. It did contain a variety of quotes, but it felt like more than that. The beginning of the book highlighted some of the most famous people whose words were cited in the book, and the organization of the book itself makes it very helpful. Each emotion or issue has several appropriate quotes to help the reader reflect or understand the topic better, and they're all arranged in alphabetical order to make it easier to find what readers are looking for.
The book covers a wide variety of topics, from anger to stress and more. Similar topics are lumped together (for example, flipping to Overwhelmed leads the reader to other topics instead). With thousands of quotes, there is definitely something appropriate for any situation or feeling.

Among the thousands of sources he researched, he found short and memorable expert quotes to be exceptionally practical tools. As Leonardo Da Vinci wrote: “All thoughts start with emotion.” At a time when he was grappling with a family crisis, Johnston’s extensive research into mental health led him to discover the surprising power of short quotes to help clarify feelings and solve problems in almost any situation, including family life.
