I had a chance to see a copy of the book The Perfect Little Pooper, which comes in two versions: The Perfect Little Pooper - Patty (light skin and blond hair) and The Perfect Little Pooper - Jordan (dark skin and black hair). I do like that there are different illustrated versions so different kids can be able to see themselves reflected in the book.
It's a cute book that's aimed to help children with potty training. The book is very straightforward and encouraging, helping kids see the steps involved in making this important milestone.
I had a chance to learn more in this interview.
Why did you write this book?
I actually came up with the title of the book about 7 years ago, but never moved forward with writing it until I finally found myself with some free time after moving to Arizona from California. I really wanted to write a fun "Dr Seuss" style book that was not only fun for kids but fun for adults as well. I wanted to get all the steps of potty training in the book and I think I managed to do that. Is it the perfect PT book, no, but it's fun for the whole family and puts smiles on people's faces!
How can families use books to encourage potty training?
I think as far as families are concerned, i think if it's a "family" effort with the trainee, they are more receptive to it. As you will see in the book, both Mom and Dad are on every page. I know that there isn't always two parents of course, but the goal was fun with all the steps of PT.
I think my favorite advice is letting your child watch while the parents "do" their potty as kids like to mimic their heroes, their parents.
If you're looking for a book that both explains potty training and is fun to read, then this book is a good option!
