Welcome to GigglesandStardust.com, a brand-new online destination created by and starring a true Renaissance woman in the realm of child education – teacher, author, composer, illustrator, award-winning artist and loving Mom, Jamie Lee Hoffer.
I had a chance to interview her to learn more.
Why did you create this website?
When people ask me why, at this point in my life, would I want to put 24/7 into something of this scale…I tell them that although I feel this is a gift of love that I want to share, it is also something greater than myself that is urgently driving me. Funny, but true – I do believe there is an urgency – to slow down, to walk in nature, to look and explore things with wonder and curiosity and to give ourselves time to be quiet – time for our minds to be still – so we can hear what is being said under all the noise.
I am at the “sweet spot” of my life, where everything I’ve done and everything I’ve been has brought me to this place where I am capable of sharing myself in the most genuine way. I know this is what I am supposed to be doing – giving out the over abundance of love that I have, yet often wondered what to do with. Now I know.
What sets it apart from other kid-friendly websites?
Part of what sets us apart is that I am bringing my experience and expertise as a teacher, musician, artist and mother to the programming. We know that children thrive in atmospheres that include a variety of interests and mediums. So, we develop our content with the concrete understanding that what children are exposed to, especially in the first years of their lives, is crucial in order to support the subsequent things they learn. This establishes a strong and healthy foundation for exponential, continued learning and engagement in the world.
To do this we bring in a unique cast of whimsical puppets, spend time learning with and from experts in the community, make art, sing original & popular children’s songs, and take opportunities to go on adventures and tell stories about nature and our earth. In doing all of this we explore what it means to be a growing toddler, validate their expression of emotions, and capture the awe and wonder of their world. Plus, we giggle a lot!
Why is it important for kids to have positive, safe online entertainment options?
We don't have to tell parents that there is so much out there online that they won’t want their children exposed to. Parents know this. We’ve all been there when an unwanted pop-up ad comes on the screen and you have to fly like a superhero over the sofa to hit the mute button!
As an educator and mother, I take responsibility for the time they are watching Giggles & Stardust very seriously. That’s why we made an ad-free option on our website, so that parents can trust that when they set their child up to watch Giggles and Stardust, that’s exactly what they’ll get.
