Book Nook: How to Become a Gardener - Find empowerment in creating your own food security

I recently had a chance to review the book How to Become a Gardener: Find empowerment in creating your own food security. As someone who already has a garden and definitely appreciates what we're able to get from it, I was excited to read this book and hopefully pick up some additional tips and tricks.

One think I really liked about this book was how it presented gardening as not only achievable, but also a way to increase confidence. I think a lot of people are overwhelmed by the idea of gardening, thinking they'll need a lot of space or equipment or that it will cost a lot to get started. Depending on how you set the garden up, sometimes that can be the case, but we personally have always gotten more out of the garden than we've put in, so it's definitely been a strong return on investment. We've also seen a lot of creative ways to maximize space - my brother and his wife are able to get quite a bit out of their container garden from their deck (they don't have a yard). So it's definitely doable in a variety of living situations!

Reading this book isn't going to instantly make you self-sufficient when it comes to food - you won't magically have everything your family needs. But it will definitely give you the knowledge and advice you need to be able to take control of some of your own food production, which is a huge benefit to many families, between rising costs and sometimes the availability of fresh food in your neighborhood. It can also have a community aspect to it, whether it's because you share your abundance, or because you actually live in a space with a community garden.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about gardening and just doesn't know if it's possible or how to get started!
