Fun Freetime: Online Gaming Predictions

Here is some commentary from Ron Kerbs, CEO of Kidas, a tech company developing anti-cyberbullying and predator protection software for online gaming platforms, on what he thinks will be in store for next year.

1-     The gaming industry will further consolidate. As we previously saw with the Microsoft and Activision deal, we will very likely see additional M&A activity within the next year, which will significantly shape the future of the industry in both the short- and long-term.

2-     The “Robloxation” of games will continue trending. This will allow more developers to extend, change and build their own games.

3-     Voice chats, especially proximity voice chats (talking to the people next to you in the game), will be critical. Even games that target kids, like Roblox, added voice chat, and we will continue to see this happening in 2023 for increased personalization.

4-     More brands will move into games. Burberry recently did this with Minecraft, and others will follow suit, capitalizing on combining real-world and online experiences to further engage consumers.

5-     With the new California law that seeks to protect children’s wellbeing, data and privacy online, games will need to take more steps to fight toxic behavior. This means adopting more safety tools and having stricter age verification methods.
