Money Matters: Most and Least Expensive Cities to Raise a Family

Between inflation and economic uncertainty, 76% of Americans say they’re having a tough time budgeting for their family, and many are taking drastic measures to make ends meet.

It’s no secret the cost of living is higher in certain parts of the country, and a new study found that 1 in 5 American families say they’re considering moving in 2023 to cut costs

Affordability is the number one thing families say they’ll consider when finding a new place to live in 2023, many saying it’s more important than the school system, safety, and size of their new home.

  • States with the most expensive childcare: New York, D.C., Hawaii, New Jersey, Massachusetts
  • Most affordable cities to raise a family: Gilbert, AZ, Chandler, AZ, Plano, TX, Irving, TX, Omaha, NE
  • Most expensive cities for families: San Diego, CA, Chula Vista, CA, Washington D.C., NYC, Honolulu, HI

The full report also includes data on the cities with the most affordable single-family homes and more. Let me know if you have questions or want to use any of this data in an upcoming story!
