As the line continues to blur between gaming and cinematic experiences, a new study reveals insights on the growing interest and engagement among gamers.
The study, conducted by Solitaired, found over half (51%) of gamers say they’d play video games even more if they were based on popular movies, TV shows, or books!
Gamers were asked to vote on their favorite movies in 2023 they would play as video games and, unsurprisingly, many were drawn to video game-inspired films:
- The Super Mario Bros. Movie and John Wick: Chapter 4 (tied)
- Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse
- Cocaine Bear
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (tied)
The favorite new game so far in 2023 is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom followed by Diablo IV and Hogwarts Legacy.
But, video games don’t come cheap. Gamers have spent an average of $146 on video games in 2023, and 79% believe games are getting too expensive. Others are resorting to shady methods to get their hands on games. Nearly 1 in 3 (29%) have illegally downloaded a game.
