Is color disappearing from American homes? Well, our 50 states might as well be dubbed "Fifty Shades of Neutrals” after a new study found the top 10 paint colors in the U.S. are mostly some shade of white and gray.
The most popular U.S. paint color is Sherwin Williams' Grizzle Gray. The only non-white or gray color to make it on the list is Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue.
The study also surveyed over 1,000 homeowners and found nearly half (49%) have a room in their home they wish was a different color. Plus, 93% of Americans have undertaken the task of painting at least one room in their home before.
Additional highlights:
- Americans spent $439 on interior paint, and $1,001 on exterior paint projects on average in the past year
- Nearly 1 in 5 say painting a room is a challenging task
- 74% say picking out a paint color isn’t easy
Plus, 40% have regretted a paint color choice… prompting 1 in 3 having to repaint a room because they didn’t like the color they initially painted it.
