Giving someone a compliment is an easy way to spread positivity but a lot of us aren't great at receiving them.
A new study found receiving compliments is uncomfortable for 70% of Americans and it reveals why.
Key findings:
- Reasons Americans are uncomfortable receiving compliments: 1. Dislike being the center of attention, 2. Low self-esteem, 3. Fear of appearing arrogant
- Mississippi, Louisiana, and Washington are the best states at receiving compliments.
- The top preferred compliment by women is kindness (20%) and men is intelligence (20%).
- Almost half, 49%, feel the need to immediately return a compliment after receiving one which leads to no surprise that 41% also admit to giving compliments they don't actually mean.
