Website Spotlight - MakeMyMove

A new MakeMyMove survey shows only 11 percent of respondents are “living their best lives” in their current home community. The survey showed 52 percent of respondents agreed that they would be better off living someplace else, and another 15 percent somewhat agreed with that sentiment. More than half of the respondents say they wish they lived closer to family.

“People are more mobile than ever and are looking for places where they feel welcome and connect to the community,” said MakeMyMove CoFounder and COO Evan Hock. “Growth-minded cities and towns would do well to start recruiting these geographical free agents.”

The survey questioned 886 U.S. citizens who are eligible to work in the country, employed, have household incomes of $75,000 or more and are between the ages of 25 and 54.

Men and younger people were more likely to be ready to move than women and older workers. Respondents living in coastal communities were least satisfied with where they live compared to others. Conversely, those in the West North Central region (Minnesota, the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma) are happiest where they are, suggesting that they’re getting something right about life in “flyover country.

“We know people who live on the coasts find the city congestion and expensive housing to be huge stressors, so they’re looking for more affordable and hospitable areas,” he said. “Successful talent recruitment isn’t just a financial transaction, though. Our data shows that a welcoming attitude wins out over dollars every time.”

MakeMyMove has successfully helped more than 2,000 people relocate to communities offering relocation incentives, along with ongoing support and services that range from help with finding housing, childcare and even fresh farm eggs, membership in local service groups and tickets to local events and recreational opportunities.

About MakeMyMove: MakeMyMove is the country’s first and only online marketplace where remote workers can explore the communities that are incentivizing their relocations.
