In Trouble Finds Evie Lefkowitz, things aren’t going well for Evie Lefkowitz. Since her father passed away, she’s successfully helped her mother fend off several unappealing suitors. But now her mother seems thrilled about an upcoming date—with the assistant principal at Evie’s middle school. Things couldn’t get much worse…
Until her mother volunteers Evie as a tutor for Joey Ceraco, a boy Evie hasn’t spoken to since their kindergarten playdates—a boy who, along with his best friend Tommy Halliday, is known as trouble. Joey’s friends couldn’t be more different from Evie’s, and her identity as “the cantor’s daughter” at Temple Shir Shalom is something they don’t understand. But a questionable science project makes them look beyond labels and reluctantly join forces in a daring after-school rescue that could get them all lifetime detention.
And maybe getting in a little trouble is what it takes for Evie to become the person she’s meant to be.
Diana Harmon Asher’s debut novel, Sidetracked, was an ABA Indies Introduce title and an ALA Notable book. It was awarded a Parents’ Choice Foundation 2018 Recommended Seal and nominated for seven state book awards. In her second book, Diana turned from Sidetracked’s muddy running trails to the middle school musical stage. Kirkus called Upstaged, “A sincerely moving story with a whole lottta heart.” Sidetracked and Upstaged were translated into Japanese, and had the great honor to be selected by the Japanese School Library Association for the National Youth Book Report Contest. Diana graduated from Yale University with a BA in English, then worked in subsidiary rights at Doubleday & Co., Inc. and as East Coast Story Editor for Columbia Pictures. She is the mother of three grown sons and grandmother to three very adorable grandsons. She lives with her husband, Henry, in Westchester, NY, with occasional world travels and frequent visits to their favorite place, Block Island, RI.
