About PlantSwitch
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), microplastics can be found everywhere in the environment including the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink.
Microplastics are fragments of plastic that are the size of a grain of rice. Smaller fragments then break away from larger pieces from products like those commonly used at celebrations; like utensils, plates, bowls and straws.
According to PlantSwitch co-founder and CEO, Dillon Baxter, “Our mission is to replace all petroleum-based single-use plastic with plants. We upcycle agricultural residues, such as rice hulls and wheat straw into a plant-based resin that we are using to make nearly all types of plastic products.”
PlantSwitch works with local farms to turn agricultural residues into compostable pellets. That bioplastic resin is then used to make everything from eating utensils, plates, containers, packaging, toothbrushes, coffee pods and other products.
