The report found 1 in 4 Americans took on debt this holiday season with a median balance of $500.
- 48% feel stressed entering 2026 due to holiday debt
- 26% took money out of savings or retirement funds to cover holiday costs
- 34% plan to take on a side job in 2026 to pay it off
While 38% of Americans say they spent more during the 2025 holiday season than in 2024, 31% experience ‘buyer's remorse’ and nearly 1 in 5 (19%) will return gifts to lower their debt.
