Consumer Critique: Special K Protein Shake

I recently received a sample of Special K Protein Shakes (the chocolate flavor). I was initially surprised by the nutrition information - it seemed much higher than I expected for something that was supposed to take the edge off hunger - until I realized that it was designed to be a meal replacement shake (at 190 calories it's more than just a snack). For just quick snacks to tide you over, Special K also has flavored waters with protein and fiber that are designed to get you between meals (at only 50 calories each).

The shakes are available in Chocolate, Strawberry, and Vanilla. I don't know much about the other two flavors, but the chocolate was pleasant. It was creamy, and not quite as sweet as expected, but it wasn't chalky or weird. Although I don't use meal-replacement shakes on a regular basis, they can be a good way to help up your nutrition (this one contains 100% recommended daily intake of C and E and 35% of A, D, calcium, and B12) and make dieting simpler or more convenient when you're out of the house.

Special K is running several promotions right now. They have a free workout DVD offer (with five stamps from specially marked boxes or $5.99 with one stamp) and you can also download a coupon.
