Mealtime Magic: Green Apple Tea

Did you know that Tetley Tea was named the most effective tea for kicking a cold in a Men's Health Magazine article about ways to beat the cold and flu? This was based on the results of a study conducted by Joseph M. Weber, Ph.D., a professor of microbiology at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec. The study found that EGCG, a chemical compound found in certain kinds of tea, but in the highest concentrations in green tea, stopped the virus from replicating when added to lab samples of the adenovirus (one of the bugs responsible for colds).

So, here's a great recipe for "teasplashing" - incorporating the benefits of tea with tastes that make it easier for kids (and people like me who don't even like tea) to drink:

Green Apple Tea
1 Tetley Decaffeinated Green Tea bag
4 oz. of boiling water
4 oz. 100% apple juice
Place the tag bag in an 8 oz. cup. Add boiling water and allow tea to steep for 3 minutes. Remove tea bag and add juice. Makes one 8 oz. serving.

And you can definitely adjust this to taste. Kids may need more apple juice and less water. Adults might be fine with just a splash of apple juice in the water. It's a nice warm, soothing beverage if you're sick!

Disclosure: I received samples of Tetley Tea as a thank you for this post.
