Consumer Critique: Loogie the Booger Genie

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

What would you do if you suddenly had a genie trapped in a bottle in your nose? That's the set-up to the book Loogie the Booger Genie, The Very Nasty Cold. Prince Lugar, a magical genie, is trapped in a bottle in Charlie's nose. When Charlie gets sick, and an evil genie from the past shows up, it leads to some magical adventures.

The book would be cute for the right age group. I could see it being appealing to tweens. When I initially read the book, I felt like there could be a little more backstory included, or a little more tying up of loose ends - then realized that this was book 2 of a series with another one in the works to be released later. It works as a standalone book - my daughter enjoyed it - but I think it would be even better with the surrounding stories.

The book is family-friendly. There isn't really anything parents could find objectionable here (unless they refused to read any fiction books about magic). There are a few cute illustrations in the book, and it's fun to see what the author, N.E. Castle - who worked as a private investigator and works in biotechnology - is able to come up with!
