Narconon
Freedom Center is urgently warning teens and college students to be
alert for Molly being sold at Rave parties. The highly dangerous drug is
more intense than Ecstasy and can be deadly taken only once.
Molly has properties similar to the stimulant effects of Ecstasy, but
taken in larger doses it promotes hallucinogenic reactions. This poses
an even greater risk to young adults who have taken Ecstasy previously
and accidentally overdosed trying to achieve hallucinogenic effects. The
federal government currently classifies Molly as a Schedule One drug which means it has no
accepted medical use and a high potential for misuse.
"The
DEA is currently conducting 'Operation X-Out' which is a
nationwide initiative to increase education and enforcement operations
involving club and predatory drugs. We strongly support the DEA in their
efforts and are providing drug education on this topic as well to help
educate teens and college students," says Brian Kuehne, Executive
Director of Narconon Freedom Center.
Four
myths about Molly helping to separate face from fiction have been
reported in "Concert Deaths: Four Myths About the Drug Molly" by Maia
Szalavitz.
First, Molly is a new drug. Factually,Molly is the new street name for an old drug, formerly known as Ecstasy, and popularized in recent songs by Miley Cyrus and Kanye West. Second, Molly is safer than other drugs as it's purer. Factually, since it is actually no more pure than other street drugs, Molly's reputation for safety is not justified. Third,
drinking water makes Molly safer. Factually, while staying hydrated can
reduce the risk of heat stroke associated with the drug, it can also
cause the body to retain water, so drinking too much water can lead to a
potentially fatal electrolyte imbalance. Fourth, mixing Molly with other drugs can give you a better buzz. Factually, it depends. Mixing it with
alcohol, for example, dampens the high, while also increasing the risk
of dehydration. This can lead users to do more of the drug and drink
more alcohol. Caffeine and other stimulants, however, do increase the
effects of the drug but can also boost the dangers, since they raise the
risk of heat stroke by increasing body temperature.
