Healthy Habits: Post-Natal Nutrition

Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.

There's a lot of emphasis on eating healthy during pregnancy. But once the baby is born, so much time is devoted to the baby's needs that it's easy for moms to forget their own.

However, it's important to maintain good nutrition during the postpartum time as well. If you're breastfeeding you want to make sure your body is making the nutrients needed to nourish yourself and the baby. Proper nutrition helps you have enough energy to do everything your growing family needs you to do. Plus, it helps you feel better mentally as well.

There are a lot of great foods that contain important nutrients for new moms, to support digestive health, circulatory system, nervous system, and more!
Almonds: protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats
Dates: fiber, calcium, iron, potassium
Pumpkin seeds: protein, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, copper, magnesium, zinc
Sweet potatoes: vitamins A and C, potassium, fiber
Quinoa: protein, fiber, folate, phosphorus, magnesium
Chia seeds: calcium, phosphorus, manganese, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids
Mango: fiber, vitamins A/C/B6, enzymes, antioxidants
Spinach: vitamins A/C/K, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium
Kale: vitamins A/C/K, fiber, protein, calcium, iron
Honey: antiviral, antimicrobial, and antioxidant components
Olive oil: monounsaturated fats, polyphenol compounds
Molasses: Iron, vitamin B6

These ingredients and many more have been carefully chosen to be included in the Credible Cravings bars. The bars come in Lemon Ginger Greens, Oatmeal Cranberry, and Chocolate. They taste pretty good. The cranberry and chocolate bars were delicious; although I didn't like the lemon ginger greens as well, I didn't dislike them either, and they were a good way to get extra greens in for the day.

You can learn about the nutritional needs of mothers on their website, where they profile several other ingredients and ways to get them into your diet.
