Book Nook: Star Passage

I recently had a chance to review a unique book, Star Passage - Book One, The Relic. In the book, two teenagers are dealing with their father's PTSD and their mother's depression, a huge amount for kids to deal with. The downward spiral is nearly at a breaking point, when an old Christmas ornament becomes an important relic for both them, and the Trackers - dark figures who feel that this holds the key to their freedom as well.

It's an interesting concept, one that involves time travel, excitement, danger, and emotional reconciliation. It kept me turning pages to the end, to figure out where the author was going with the story. I like the fact that PTSD and depression were central to the book - it helps to break the stigma of talking about mental illness to have them so prominent in a young adult novel!
