Book Nook: Winning Plays

I recently had a chance to review Winning Plays - Tackling Adversity and Achieving Success in Business and in Life. With the title, it's fairly obvious that there's a sports connection there, which is true. It's written by Matt Mayberry, a former NFL player who has battled addiction and adversity.

Matt has had amazing highs and lows in his life, so he can write with the voice of experience about the effects adversity has had, and how he's overcome those struggles to be successful. It's definitely a book that will appeal to many men in ways other books may not, as it has a very strong, authoritative voice, but it's not so male-oriented that women won't enjoy reading it either.

It's an encouraging book, one that helps the reader without speaking at the reader, one that seems like the author is really with the reader through struggles. It has some practical advice, some of it I've heard before but stated in a different way, so it can have a new influence. If you know someone in your life who's looking for a way out of a struggle, this can be a good book for them to read.
