Consumer Critique: Plaque HD

Last fall, the prestigious American Journal of Medicine released results of a novel randomized trial that Plaque HD® significantly reduces dental plaque as well as inflammation throughout the body as measured by high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP).  Hs-CRP is an accurate measure of inflammation and sensitive marker for future heart attacks and strokes.

I had a chance to review Plaque HD® toothpaste. It did take some getting used to, but I like the idea - the toothpaste starts by staining teeth where plaque is, and then the user brushes until the color is all removed. This helps ensure that brushing is complete and helps remove plaque from teeth.

Plaque on teeth leads to probably the most unpleasant part of dental cleaning - all the scraping. This toothpaste is really helpful for kids and adults in seeing how their brushing technique is going. It is pricy, so I probably wouldn't use it all the time, but instead as a way to check brushing technique on a somewhat regular basis.
