Book Nook: Little Book of Healing - A Coloring Book for Grief and Loss

It is hard to experience loss. It's even harder to watch kids experience it. I have students of a variety of ages, as well as family friends, who have experienced the death of a friend or family member, and it can be hard as a caring adult to know how to help them grieve.

I recently had the chance to review Little Book of Healing, a small, pocket-sized coloring book to help children on their grief journey. It's a great resource for those who work with children - teachers, counselors, or people in the medical profession - who might be in a position to hand out to children that are experiencing loss. The book is generic enough to help people of all religious backgrounds cope with grief, yet to a child will feel like it's just for their situation. The format of a coloring book helps give kids time to think about each page and let the message sink in, plus it's small enough that they or their parents can carry it with them to work on whenever they have time.

If you've had to work with children who have experienced grief and loss, you know how easy it is to feel helpless when comforting them. This can provide a tangible way to help them work through their grief.
