Caring Causes: Project Sunshine Month

Project Sunshine, a New York City-based charity, celebrates “Project Sunshine Month” in April by raising awareness and support for the organization through a series of events and programs.  Project Sunshine also recognizes its volunteers during Project Sunshine Week, April 20 through April 27, 2017, an annual week of service that will culminate with Project Sunshine’s Annual Benefit Celebration, “Brighter Together,” to be held on Thursday, April 27th at Cipriani 42nd Street.

“The month of April is a time for Project Sunshine to say thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors and community members who bring sunshine into the lives of children facing medical challenges,” said Beatrice Kernan, Executive Director, Project Sunshine. “This month aims to celebrate and honor the compassionate individuals who are truly the heart of the organization and make our programs possible.”

For more than a decade, Project Sunshine has been bringing its own form of light to the city that never sleeps. During this special month, both national and local businesses will band together to raise funds and awareness for the organization. New York City will show its support for Project Sunshine with proclamations from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio declaring April 20 – April 27, 2017 as Project Sunshine Week.

To kick off Project Sunshine Week, Meredith Vieira and Joseph Weilgus, Founder of Project Sunshine, will participate in a ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building to honor the nonprofit and its volunteers and to celebrate Project Sunshine’s Annual Gala on April 25th.

On Thursday, April 27th, Project Sunshine will host its Annual Benefit Celebration, “Brighter Together,” at Cipriani 42nd Street. The event honors Warren Cole, Co-CEO, Post Acute Partners. Co-Chairs of the event are Shawn McGowen and Al Tylis. Emcee for the evening will be Cindy Hsu, WCBS-TV.
