The Elevator Escalator Safety Foundation
(EESF) is an international nonprofit that provides elevator and
escalator safety education to the public. EESF is unveiling a national
launch of its Safe T Rider campaign. The campaign is focused on teaching
children age four to eleven how to safely ride elevators and
escalators. Since the safety program’s inception in 1991, it has reached
more than 8 million children, with the goal of lowering the number of
accidents involving young children on escalators and elevators.
“The
Safe T Rider program provides a fun and interactive way for children to
learn about safety,” says Nikole Gore-Layton, executive director of the
EESF. “The Safe T Rider campaign is geared towards youth, but also
provides some great resources for parents and teachers to help children
learn about elevator and escalator safety. Educating children about the
proper use of elevators and escalators is vital to their safety.”
EESF
unveiled new superhero characters, Safe T Boy and Safe T Girl, in 2016.
They serve as the Safe T Riders program mascots. The Safe T Rider
Campaign website offers games, puzzles, trivia, educational videos, a
pledge and even a downloadable printed certification of completion. The
focus of the campaign allows kids to learn in a fun and relaxed
environment with information tailored specifically to their age group.
