Book Nook: Back on the Map

I recently had a chance to review Back on the Map, a middle-grade novel about twins Penny and Porter. With an unknown father and a mother who died when they were small, they've been bounced around between foster homes. Although Penny enjoys imagining who she might be related to in the missing branch of their family tree, she's tired of moving all the time. Right now they're being raised by their Grauntie in the small town of New Hope, North Carolina, and Penny feels like if she can just get their town noticed, she won't have to move again.

It's a book that ties together a variety of themes - relocation, foster family living, courage and hard work, a dream and perseverance. It's well-written and kept my fifth-grade daughter intrigued throughout the book. She enjoys reading books about strong girls who take on the world, and this was no exception.

You can buy the book at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, or Indiebound.
