Book Nook: When You Find Out the World is Against You

I recently got to review When You Find Out the World is Against You: And Other Funny Memories About Awful Moments by Kelly Oxford. It wasn't exactly my kind of book, but I can think of a lot of my friends who would really enjoy it.

Kelly has a very frank, in-your-face attitude about terrible experiences. She recounts tragedies of her life in a funny, laugh-at-herself way. Some of the issues are relatively tame (an awful summer camp), while others are much more serious (rape culture and death). The book is filled with sardonic prose and humorous storytelling, and honestly the only thing I didn't like about it was the language (although it's perfect for the tone she's trying to get across).

Kelly creating #NotOkay, which encouraged millions of women to share their stories of assault, and I really applaud her for that, as well as her willingness to carry on in spite of everything that happens. If you (or a friend) enjoy reading a book that will commiserate with how awful the world is, but how you can still survive, and don't mind a few choice words in the process, then this is the book for you.
